Uniting for a Cleaner Tomorrow: Girl Scouts Take Action

Girl Scouts Troops 60226 and 60095 began their year with a hands-on community service event, cleaning up the High Plains Community Center grounds in Orange, CT. The event not only marked the beginning of their troop activities but also highlighted the core Girl Scout values of service, leadership, and responsibility.

Values

During the kick-off meeting, troop leaders discussed the importance of community service, why it’s central to Girl Scout values, and how even small efforts can make a big difference. “By caring for shared spaces, we promote environmental stewardship, teach responsibility, and strengthen the bonds within our community. These efforts not only improve the physical space but also set an example for others, showing that small acts of service can have a lasting impact” said Jesika DeMatteo, Troop Community Service Leader.

Action

“The choice to start at the High Plains Community Center was particularly meaningful, as it serves as the meeting place for these troops. The clean-up was not just about beautifying a local space but about giving back to a place that plays a central role in their activities,” said Jesika.  Twenty-six Girl Scouts spent two hours enthusiastically collecting litter with reusable trash bins and nabbers. The event even inspired a local 3-year-old boy, who eagerly joined in to help, highlighting how small actions can inspire others to get involved.

Unger is proud to support these young leaders and provide the tools that help make their efforts successful. These types of community clean-ups not only improve our environment but bring people together. Whether it’s a neighborhood park, a local community center, or public spaces in need, these acts of service contribute to healthier, cleaner communities for everyone.
