Yes, Cleaner Bathrooms Can Bring People Back To The Movie Theaters
This article from Variety interviewing Movie Theater Executives about how to bring customers back to the movies caught our eye because it featured cleaner bathrooms as a headlining reason. We of course agree; dirty bathrooms is often the #1 complaint customers have about any establishment they visit.
Eduardo Acuna, CEO of Regal Cineworld, agrees that dirty bathrooms are a big reason customers may decide to never come back to a movie theater:
“Dirty bathrooms are the worst thing you can do; if someone comes and your theater has a dirty bathroom, that person may never come back.”
Even more interesting was Variety’s follow-up question to that remark; they asked how they would manage hiring more people to clean the bathroom when “things have gotten more expensive”? Acuna did not answer this directly, but we will be happy to answer it. The solution is you don’t have to hire more people to clean bathrooms better. You just need to clean with much more efficient tools, and color-coded ones at that.
- Clean the bathroom floors with microfiber mops, not cotton mops. Microfiber typically removes 95% of microbes from the floor, whereas cotton mops typically remove around 70%.
- Use a dual bucket to mop floors instead of a single chamber mop bucket. The second you dip your mop into a single chamber bucket, you’re just cleaning with dirty solution and then not really cleaning whatsoever.
- Clean with ergonomic toilet brushes; less bending, better safety leads to cleaning toilets better, safer, and faster.
- Clean bathroom mirrors effortlessly with telescopic-handled surface cleaning kits instead of using paper towels and spray bottles—less reaching and spraying for a safer, faster, and more effective clean.
Cleaning bathrooms should be a priority for every venue, and for some places, making it the #1 priority might be enough of a fix. Some movie theaters may check on their bathrooms once a day, if that. Ideally, they should be cleaned every hour, if not every 30 minutes. The task may seem daunting unless you invest in cleaning tools that make cleaning easier and safer for your employees.
