World Clean Up Day: Commercial Cleaning Tools Facility Managers Can Use to Make an Impact

As a commercial cleaning tools company, cleaning up is really all we ever talk about. Whether we’re talking about best practices for cleaning facilities, innovative product designs, or industry news, at the heart of it all is an understanding that better cleaning tools and practices support the well-being of our communities and our planet. World Cleanup Day is a civic movement, uniting 180 countries and millions of people across the world to clean up the planet. Volunteers and partners worldwide come together to clean up litter and mismanaged waste, while bringing awareness to how smarter choices in design, production, and consumption can positively impact the global waste epidemic.

This year World Clean Up Day commences on September 19th and there are many ways to participate, from individual and team cleanups to new digital clean ups created in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the Unger team wants to challenge you in another way that can have even more long-lasting results.

We challenge facility managers and building service contractors to re-evaluate the environmental impact of your cleaning tools and processes and consider changes that are less harmful for cleaning staff, community members, and the planet.

Investing in Commercial Cleaning Tools that Support Cleaner Environments

For facility managers and building service contractors, a cleaner, healthier environment starts with the cleaning equipment being used. Take for example the following commercial cleaning tools and solutions recommended to support a cleaner facility and planet:

  • Litter Removal Tools: When litter is a problem, employing litter removal tools is great for retrieving out of reach objects high and low, or objects that could potentially harbor dangerous germs or contaminants, such as discarded paper, cigarette butts, cans, and plastic cups.  Combined with ergonomic handles and a lightweight design, you can get cleaning jobs done fast and from a safe distance, allowing you to keep your grounds spotless.Tools such as Unger’s NiftyNabber Grabber is an hygienic all-purpose grabber that keeps hands away from debris with a 18″ long handle and gives access hard-to-reach areas or items with its 360° rotating head. With an ergonomically designed grip and smooth trigger-pull action, workers and litter removal volunteers can benefit from increased comfort and efficiency. We’re proud to have our NiftyNabber litter removal tools helping with ongoing beach clean up efforts led by Ryan’s Recycling!

  • Indoor Window Cleaning Kits: Window cleaning equipment that leverages microfiber cleaning pads provides superior window cleaning power, easily collecting dust and debris without depositing any lint. For the Unger Stingray, this specific window cleaning tool design provides 39% less chemical use than traditional cleaning methods, affording cleaner air within a facility.

  • Microfiber Cleaning Technology: Because of its unique construction, microfiber requires less water and cleaning products to get the job done when compared to cotton. According to the EPA, conventional Wet Loop Mops use 105 gallons of water per 100 rooms. Microfiber uses only 5 gallons per 100 rooms. As for cleaning solution use, conventional wet loop mops use $11.55 of cleaning solution per 100 rooms, while microfiber mops use $.50 of cleaning solution per 100 rooms. The reduction in water and cleaning solution usage is not only good for the planet, but for building air quality as well.
